
Welcome!
This 6 week course will introduce you to the basic methods of handbuilding with clay. Using these techniques you will be able to create cups, bowls and vases or sculptural objects. In addition you will decorate their surface with underglaze. Your pieces will be glazed and kiln fired making them fully functional and food safe. Finished work will be ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after the last class.
Week 1: pinch pots: cups, bowls or vases or animal forms.
Week 2: coil construction: bowls, plates or vases
Week 3: slab construction: using forms and making tiles for week 4
Week 4: intro to mishima and sgraffito decorative techniques plus begin a personal project and/or completion of previous work
Week 5: complete all unfinished work
Week 6: surface decoration with underglazes or glazes
Pottery pieces will be ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after the end of class.
TEACHER’S BIO:
Katie Argyle is a visual artist who works across the fields of ceramics, painting and printmaking. She is a member of the Hill Potters” Guild and the printmaking collective PRNT in Barrie ON.
